Petr Sedláček is a Professor of Economics at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Before joining UNSW, he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford, where he remains an Associate Member. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Amsterdam in 2011.
His research studies how innovation, business dynamism and entrepreneurship shape productivity growth and employment. His work combines microdata with structural macroeconomic models and has appeared in leading journals, including the American Economic Review, the Review of Economic Studies and the Journal of Monetary Economics. It has been supported by the Future Fellowship of the Australian Research Council (2024–2028) and the Starting Grant of the European Research Council (2018–2023).
Petr is a Research Affiliate of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Monetary Economics and the European Economic Review. Alongside his academic work, Petr advises governments and public institutions. He is an expert advisor to the Australian Treasury, a Senior Academic Fellow at the e61 Institute and an evaluator for the Government Office of the Czech Republic. In the past, he consulted for the European Commission on R&D policy and modeling.
On the personal side, Petr is originally from Prague, Czech Republic. He lives in Sydney with his Australian-Dutch wife, two kids and a dog — sharing 10 passports in the family.
